Yet every summer the wild blueberry barrens come alive. The berries stay low to the ground, small, dark, and packed with flavor earned from hard country.
We start there. Wild blueberries are blended with apple juice, lemon, and just enough sugar to brighten the fruit. Vanilla yogurt and sour cream lend a cool richness, while a touch of currant-infused rum leaves a quiet warmth at the finish.

We know you folks in Virginia also claim this stew as your own, but this version is inspired by our kinfolk in South Georgia. We’ll work on a Virginia version for all of us, in the future.

Before this dish was taken over by chefs and made culinary 3 star art, it was perfected simply in the French provincial countryside by families for families. You can almost here the cicadas in the trees when your eating this hearty vegetable stew.
We slow cook all of the vegetables until soft, then give a slight char to the outside. We minimize herbs and spices, however with our southern roots we couldn’t help but to give it a little heat. Served over orzo.
